Western Union
This is the fastest way to send funds to OCS. Most processing of funds that are sent to the OCS through Western Union is done within 24 hours during the business week. In the majority of cases, funs that are transferred using Western Union arrive at the OCS within 30 minutes. The Western Union Quick Collect service can be reached through the telephone or their website. Here are the details to know before you contact Western Union.
- You will need a credit card to deposit the funds. Your credit must be one of the following: Visa, Discover, Mastercard (when you call them). Visa and Mastercard only when you deposit over the Internet.
- You will have to specify the "Code City", the answer is "OverSeasEmergency, DC".
- When asked whom to "Pay to" the reply is "Department of State".
- When asked for an account number reply with your phone number.
- You must use the "Reference" field to specify the name and location of the US citizen to whom these funds are to be disbursed.
- Note: Some states have placed a restriction on the Western Union Quick Collect service.
The other way is to visit an agent who represents Western Union, with cash. This is the most economical way of transferring funds. You will be provided with a blue form that will ask you the information mentioned earlier.
When you are filling in the amount please include an additional $30 for the OCS fee. If you do not add $30 it will be deducted from the amount you fill in.
